Spring in Vermont is a study in contrasts. The mud season — affectionately known as Vermont's fifth season — gives way to an explosion of green so vivid it almost hurts to look at. Wildflowers carpet the roadsides, maple trees bud out, and the rivers run high and fast with snowmelt.
Expect dramatic swings — warm sunny days followed by cold snaps. Snow is possible through April at higher elevations. Rain is frequent. Mud season (March–April) can make unpaved roads impassable.

Summer in Vermont
Long Days & Open Water
Vermont summers are legendary among those who've experienced them. The days are long, the air is clean, and the landscape is lush and green. Swimming holes fill with locals and visitors alike, farmers markets overflow with produce, and the mountains beckon hikers with clear-sky views.
Vermont summers are warm but rarely oppressive. Temperatures typically stay below 90°F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Evenings are almost always cool and comfortable.

Fall in Vermont
The World-Famous Foliage Season
Vermont's fall foliage is one of the great natural spectacles of North America. From late September through mid-October, the hills ignite in shades of red, orange, gold, and crimson. The air turns crisp, the light turns golden, and every road becomes a scenic drive.
Early fall is warm and beautiful. Peak foliage brings cool days and cold nights. By November, temperatures drop significantly and snow is possible at higher elevations. Book lodging months in advance for October.

Winter in Vermont
Snow, Skiing & Cozy Inns
Vermont winters are serious — and seriously beautiful. The ski resorts are world-class, the snowshoeing trails are pristine, and the inns are warm and welcoming. There's a particular magic to a Vermont winter evening: snow falling outside, a fire inside, and nowhere you need to be.
Expect significant snowfall, especially at higher elevations. Temperatures regularly drop below 0°F. Snow tires are strongly recommended. Roads are generally well-maintained, but winter driving requires caution.
